I can't tell you what is normal primary chain noise or worn out primary chain noise either. My 850 had a helluva clatter from the primary case, and I eventually got around to replacing the chain. It was worn out. And after I got the bike back together, the noise from the new chain was indistinguishable from the old one. I am surprised to hear of a loud knock from the left side of the engine. Mine has a real cracker that comes from the right side of the motor. The primary chain rattles at idle. It has no provision for tensioning it, and it makes a king hell noise at low engine speeds. It is my opinion that if there is a knock from the left side, the cam chain is well out of adjustment and needs adjustment. But it is more likely to be the primary chain. The parts donor bike engine has been taken apart and sent to the machinist for spec out. After my annual Veterans Day ride to the Vietnam Veterans memorial I parked my 2D on it's center stand right behind the SE, or what's left of it. The tank, side covers and seat were stored with the same parts from the SE. The exhaust system came off easily. After all the discussions here about triple exhaust systems I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do. One of my local motorheads suggested I keep the MAC headers and put a Supertrapp on, if the MAC has a standard collector. I'll get into that a little later. First I need a good, strong engine. As we have recently read here getting the carbs off can be frustrating. On the SE I pushed the airbox boots into the box to get enough clearance, on my 2D I simply removed the 4 airbox bolts and push it to the rear and the carbs fell out. As Mike said by just removing the bottom intakes on the airbox the whole thing can be removed, but I think this is only true on the D and 2D. I have also removed the starter, crankcase breather, left side cover, points/advance unit, cam chain adjuster, rear left external oil line, and generator stator. My 2D has had a small oil leak for the last couple of years. It is on the right side, on the bottom and towards the front. I always reasoned that it was the oil seal at the crankcase and generator. I expected to find my generator soaked with oil, but when I cracked the cover it was dry. I now believe the leak is from the oil light sensor directly under the generator. Today, 11/14, I will find out. God I love this stuff! Jean CBMMA #69 - ------------ This message is copyright: JFA2@aol.com, and the content is their responsibility. Hey Bil, You don't have to bring the money - just pop it in the mail ;-)) Actually, I don't mind Texans or any tourist in the winter. They usually fly into Denver and then head for the mountains. It's during the summer, that is a problem. During the summer from Old Colorado City (where I live) to Manitou (where I use to live) traffic moves at about 8 mph on a good day. I love my 100 year old house I just wish it wasn't in a historic district that tries to attract tourist so aggressively. Besides, everything else, I worry about the effect on the children. My daughter was 6 before she found out tourist wasn't a hyphenated word. (She thought G__ D___ Tourist was one word.) She is 15 and some of her friends still think it is. Bernie - Hunter is still up in the mountains, but he is an embarrassment to the town. (His life style hasn't change since the sixties.) They would really like to get rid of the most of the long time residents, because they don't fit the Vail/ Aspen image. They just had an auction for publicly financed housing. The winners got to buy a condo in the $180 K range at a low interest rate. (One of the winners was a lawyer with a 6 figure income) A guy from across the street commented "He would not have bought his house if he knew they were going to put a public housing project across the street." Funny, they don't look like the projects I've seen in Chicago. They look just like the other condos up there, that I can not afford and would not want because of people like him living across the street. Guess I'll go back to New Mexico or Arizona and hassle the locals or Utah (That's always fun. They love Buddhist there.) If someone talented is willing to put in the design time, I'll bet there would be plenty of willing customers. I'd suggest the same patch design in two sizes: A small one, as above, and a big one, around 12-14 inches, for the back of your riding jacket(s). The actual CBMMA number could be done as a separate strip to be sewed on under the picture. That would help keep costs down. My suggestion for a design is to have a patch that expresses what we do and resembles the WW-2 "nose art" found on B-17 bombers (go rent THE movie). After all, we ARE riding old bikes! Considering what we in this group do, it would honor not only our group spirit, but also pay homage to those who gave their lives to defeat evil. I raise a toast to them! Going through that old B-17 was a sobering experience. Plain and simple design with an obvious intention to do a job in the cheapist way; no apparent attempt to creat creature comfort for the crew; electric cables and hydraulic lines exposed along the thin aluminum skin. The little guys who had to lie curled up in those belly turrets especially have my sympathy. Another visitor to the exhibit was an old (?) guy from Harrisonburg on his like-new red XS11 Special. THAT is a NICE bike. - --WebTV-Mail-1741561516-3860 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from mailsorter-102.bryant.webtv.net (mailsorter-102.iap.bryant.webtv.net [207.79.35.92]) by postoffice-131.iap.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8/po.gso.24Feb98) with ESMTP id IAA04244; Sat, 14 Nov 1998 08:49:19 -0800 (PST) Received: from cerebro.xu.edu (CEREBRO.XU.EDU [205.133.160.240]) by mailsorter-102.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8/ms.graham.14Aug97) with ESMTP id IAA08635; Sat, 14 Nov 1998 08:49:18 -0800 (PST) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by cerebro.xu.edu (8.9.0/8.9.0) id LAA23829 for ytriples-l-list; Sat, 14 Nov 1998 11:52:08 -0500 (EST) X-Authentication-Warning: cerebro.xu.edu: majordom set sender to owner-ytriples-l@cerebro.xu.edu using -f Received: from hawk.nji.com (root@hawk.nji.com [204.141.103.7]) by cerebro.xu.edu (8.9.0/8.9.0) with SMTP id LAA23824 for ; Sat, 14 Nov 1998 11:52:05 -0500 (EST) Received: from a2.nji.com (a2.nji.com [207.111.102.2]) by hawk.nji.com (8.6.12/8.6.9) with SMTP id LAA31199 for ; Sat, 14 Nov 1998 11:47:27 -0500 Message-ID: <364DD4C1.3CD6@nji.com> Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 11:06:41 -0800 From: mxtplk X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.02 (Win95; I; 16bit) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Ytriples-L@cerebro.xu.edu Subject: [ytriples-l] CBMMA patch References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-ytriples-l@cerebro.xu.edu Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ytriples-l@cerebro.xu.edu VMarsh1 wrote: > > Do you have a 3 1/2" CBMMA patch available? If someone talented is willing to put in the design time, I'll bet there would be plenty of willing customers. (group sings: "Bless them all, bless them all, bless the long and the short and the tall . . .").
